Alan Shearer names Man United star that was ‘best player on park’ against Tottenham

Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Bruno Fernandes after the midfielder salvaged a draw for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday evening.

Fernandes scored the vital equaliser from the penalty spot with 10 minutes left, and was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main creative outlet on United’s Premier League return.

While the Reds couldn’t push on and get the winner, there were signs of encouragement with Fernandes looking particularly dangerous throughout.

“Bruno Fernandes was the best player on the park,” Shearer said on Match of the Day, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“His first touch and his first thought is to look and to play forward, and he makes the players ahead of him better players because of that.

“The options that he now provides because of that, his energy, his ability to pick the right pass, whereas before he arrived they were struggling in that position, and if he’s (Pogba) going to play on a regular basis, or decides to stay, then it could be a very, very good partnership.

The relationship between Paul Pogba and Fernandes is what is exciting so many fans in the aftermath of the game. Pogba spent just 34 minutes on the pitch, but immediately changed the tempo of the game and offered unpredictably to United’s attack.

Fernandes’ threat was no doubt enhanced by the introduction of Pogba, who Solskjaer will perhaps agree should have started the match in hindsight.

Shearer was impressed by Pogba’s brief cameo and is looking forward to what is to come from the Frenchman in the remaining eight league games this season.

“When he (Pogba) came on, he was excellent, he looked up for the fight, and they looked a dangerous partnership,” he added.

“It’s time for him to deliver now, there’s far too much talk about him off the pitch, he’s got to do it now.”

Pogba changed the game against Spurs and must be rewarded with a start alongside Fernandes as the Reds take on Sheffield United in a crucial home game on Wednesday evening.

PICTURES: Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell join Chelsea training

Chelsea returned to training today (Wednesday) at Cobham, and there were two new faces joining the rest of the squad, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell. The two summer arrivals had yet to train with the squad since signing, dealing with quarantine (presumably) and heel injury issues, respectively.

It’s unclear if either will be fit and ready for this weekend’s match against Liverpool, but it’s still nice to see them in training with the rest of the group! (Those who played on Monday apparently had a lighter session, but were all out there nonetheless.)

There’s no word on how close Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic may be. Ziyech is probably still a couple weeks out with his knee problem, at least, but Pulisic was supposed to be close before suffering a potential setback with his hamstring late last week. Neither were pictured in training, and one would assume their presence would get emphasized had they been there.
