Arsenal legend Ian Wright has taken matters into his own hands by visiting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s dad to hold discussions about a new contract for the Gunners star.
Like every Gooner, Wright is desperate for Aubameyang to sign a new deal and end speculation about his long-term future at the Emirates.
Aubameyang was at his influential best during Arsenal’s opening day victory over Fulham, rounding off a 3-0 win with a stunning strike.
The 31-year-old enters the season with less than a year remaining on his contract, although he is expected to agree fresh terms imminently.
Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Wright said: “I’m going to go see Papa Aubameyang tomorrow.
“They have to sign, simple as that, I’m not going to leave. [I’ll take the contract to him personally] if I have to!”
Aubameyang’s father then uploaded a picture on Instagram of himself with Wright at the Emirates on Monday.
He captioned the picture: “What a surprise the legend @wrightyofficial came to see me. what do you think? In any case for me it was very enriching.”
Speaking after the opening day victory at Craven Cottage, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hinted at an announcement regarding his captain’s future in the coming days.
When asked by talkSPORT about Aubameyang’s contract situation, the Arsenal manager said: “I’m very hopeful that in the next couple of days you’re going to stop asking those questions.”
