Bruno Fernandes broke down in tears after talks with Manchester United

Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes has revealed he cried after the club confirmed they wanted to sign him in January. The Portuguese playmaker completed his move to Old Trafford in the final days of the January transfer window after United agreed an initial fee of £48million with Sporting Lisbon.

Fernandes enjoyed a record-breaking campaign in the 2018/19 season and had hoped to earn a move to the Premier League that summer but both United and Tottenham declined the chance to meet Sporting’s £75m valuation. The 25-year-old was understandably disappointed but his performances didn’t drop and United came back in for him in January with the chance for him to land his dream move to the north-west.

Fernandes has taken to English football with ease but the midfielder thought his chance of a move to the club had gone and broke down crying when he discovered that United were interested in him again.

You know, I will say the truth that I was scared,’ Fernandes said on Instagram Live. ‘It was a dream [come true] but it was a big dream. For me, playing in England and for Manchester [United] was the highest part of my career.

To play in the Premier League, for one of the best teams in the world. ‘When I received the call saying: ‘Bruno, you have the chance of moving to Manchester’ I called my wife, my brother, my sister, my mother and just started crying.

‘But I was crying through happiness. I fought all my life for this, for this top club. The chance was here and I needed to take it with both hands, to follow my dream.

‘My family knew since the beginning [of my life] that I wanted to be a footballer, they knew my big dream was to be in the Premier League and to play for Manchester.’

United fans were buoyed by Fernandes’ arrival and the prospect of him linking together with Paul Pogba has given supporters even more reasons for optimism.

Pogba has been injured since the playmaker joined the club but he’s fit again and Fernandes asdmits he’s excited to finally play with the Frenchman.

‘Yes of course, I think Paul is one of the best players in Manchester and in the world,’ continued Fernandes.

‘He was injured for a lot of time. The opportunity to play side to side with him is fantastic because you want to play with the best players you can.’

PICTURES: Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell join Chelsea training

Chelsea returned to training today (Wednesday) at Cobham, and there were two new faces joining the rest of the squad, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell. The two summer arrivals had yet to train with the squad since signing, dealing with quarantine (presumably) and heel injury issues, respectively.

It’s unclear if either will be fit and ready for this weekend’s match against Liverpool, but it’s still nice to see them in training with the rest of the group! (Those who played on Monday apparently had a lighter session, but were all out there nonetheless.)

There’s no word on how close Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic may be. Ziyech is probably still a couple weeks out with his knee problem, at least, but Pulisic was supposed to be close before suffering a potential setback with his hamstring late last week. Neither were pictured in training, and one would assume their presence would get emphasized had they been there.
