Man United edging closer to the Teenager contract agreement Despite Chelsea Interest

Manchester United are making progress, albeit slowly, in contract talks with Angel Gomes whose current deal expires this month.

The 19-year-old has been at the club since he was six years old and made his first team debut at just 16 years old when he replaced Wayne Rooney in a 2017 Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

He has not made a breakthrough into the first team on a regular basis, though, making just 10 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, despite his debut coming over three years ago. With his contract expiring at the end of June, it is game time that is the major issue for the teenager as he considers extending his stay at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard

The Athletic reports that an agreement is yet to be reached, but it is getting closer, with United offering the youngster around £25,000-a-week to stay at the club. They note that Gomes has been involved fully in training since the return from the coronavirus hiatus, which suggests he will play some part in first team action before the end of the season.

While an Old Trafford stay is looking more likely, a move to Chelsea is still not out of the question, with the Blues interested in taking advantage of the winger’s contract situation.

Jando Sancho

Frank Lampard’s side are keen to attract the England Under-20 international to Stamford Bridge and are reportedly willing to offer him the game time that he has been lacking with the Red Devils.

Barcelona have also shown an interest in the youngster and if he were to see out his contract and leave then United would only be entitled to a compensation fee.

The Red Devils have made assurances to Gomes over his first team future, but with the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho linked to the club, he does not entirely believe them.
