Former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova has joined hands with a new start-up called The Skills which was launched on Tuesday. The website lets users watch instructional videos on several sports and tutorials will be available on the site by some of the world’s top athletes.
Besides Sharapova, who is a five-time Grand Slam winner, the site has also tied up with 23-time Olympic gold-medal swimmer Michael Phelps, snowboarder Shaun White, beach volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings, and NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, among others.
5-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova joins hands with The Skills
Sharapova posted the below video on her Instagram account on Tuesday in which she talks about the project. “This project has been a labor of love, technical details, and weekly Tuesday editing calls? for the past few months.
Welcome to the world, @theskills!! Throughout my career I’ve been lucky to have amazing coaches by my side, who taught me not only the fundamental skills that helped me on the court, but also lessons that guide my life today.
From my first serve to my first tournament, they’ve pushed me to reach my highest potential – and for the first time ever, I’m going to be sharing those important life lessons they taught me along the way with our launch of The Skills.
Even better, it’s not just me – you’ll have access to my course, plus the ability to learn from @m_phelps00 @shaunwhite, @kerrileewalsh, @larryfitzgerald & a whole bunch of other sports icons. Exclusively at @theskills.
Sharapova says, “Every world-class athlete has unique talents and skills crafted through years of hard work and dedication, but our ability to pass down that knowledge is often limited by time, accessibility and other factors.
The Skills changes that in a way that appeals to the world´s greatest athletes, our fans and the next generation of talent.” Maria Sharapova retired from the professional circuit in January this year and since then has been involved with a number of business ventures – some of these, like her partnership with The Skills, are directly related to tennis while others are not – like her recent tie-ups with Bala Bangles and Therabody.
