Novak Djokovic: My ambition and desire is to break Roger Federer’s records

Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has admitted that he is obsessed with breaking the biggest record of the game and he will do everything he can in order to achieve his goal. Djokovic, ranked at No. 1 in the world, is the third player on the all time Grand Slam record list with 17 Majors captured.

Roger Federer, 38, has won a record of 20 Grand Slam titles, while world No. 2 Rafael Nadal owns 19 Majors in his collection. The Serb has won the most Grand Slams since 2018 — a total of six Majors. Also, Djokovic is the third player on the list with most weeks spent as world No 1.

Federer holds the record with most weeks spent on the top spot, while Pete Sampras holds the second place. The Serb is only a couple of weeks removed from making it past Sampras and soon he will be the second player on the list with most weeks spent as world No 1.

“I do not hide that I want to become the greatest tennis player in history. My ambition, desire, and goal is to break records for the longest time as number 1 in the world, and also, the number of Grand Slam tournaments won.

These are like Mount Everest for tennis players in terms of success and achievement. But we’ll see if it happens,” Djokovic told Nova TV, as revealed on Essentially Sports.

Novak Djokovic not concerned with his age
Djokovic, who turned 33 last month, admits he is not young anymore but he hopes he will still be able to perform at the highest level in this stage of his career.

Federer, who will be turning 39 this coming August, won his last Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2017 — at the age of 35. “I am no longer in my third decade, I have entered my fourth. By some sporting standards, I am no longer young and am slowly entering the last third of my career.

I’m not thinking about the end, I’m not thinking when it could be, I feel good and above all, I love this sport,” Djokovic added. Earlier this season, Djokovic claimed a record eighth Australian Open and improved his Grand Slam tally to 17.

Novak Djokovic will have a chance to win more Grand Slams this year as the season is set to resume in August and the US Open and French Open are scheduled to take place in a few months.
