Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has given a positive update on the rehab of superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and versatile wide receiver Skyy Moore.
‘He didn’t have to get anything done. He’s doing good, he feels good,’ Reid said of Mahomes in an interview with NFL Network this weekend. ‘This time he jumped right back into workouts and working the ankle, rehabbing the ankle.
‘He’s lifting and running the parts that he could run, and he didn’t miss a beat on that.’Although it appears Mahomes is on track to be healthy by the time the team arrives to training camp, questions still remain over whether or not the Chiefs will add a veteran wide receiver for him to throw to.
Reid also seemed to sidestep a question about Odell Beckham Jr., when he said ‘Odell is a good football player. Yeah, he does a nice job. So, we’ll see how all that goes.’
The two-time Super Bowl winning head coach also made it clear that he is expecting the 2022 2nd-round draft pick Moore to step up and fill the void left by the departures of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman.
‘We are expecting Skyy Moore to step up,’ Reid said. ‘We’ll just see how everything else works. We got the same guys coming back that we had, and we like that group with the exception of JuJu.
‘Mecole was banged up a little bit so he didn’t have a chance to play as much as he would have wanted. We’ll work out the thing without JuJu. Somebody will have to step up and take that spot.’
Moore played sparingly on offense last season due to the depth the Chiefs had at receiver but saw an ample amount of game time as the team’s return man.
He recorded only three receptions for 33 yards and three rushes for 24 yards throughout his rookie season.
Despite Reid stating his expectations for Moore, the Chiefs have reportedly shown interest in not only Beckham, but also in Arizona Cardinals three-time All-Pro Deandre Hopkins.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that Kansas City are one of the multiple teams that have shown interest in trading for Hopkins, while ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Chiefs were one of the 10 teams at Beckham’s private workout on March 10th.
